At Way of River Psychotherapy
Sometimes along life’s path we can start to feel like we have lost our way. We may begin to question our decisions. Sometimes it may start with a vague sense of things not being right. Other times we may feel an overwhelming sense of pain or fear. Or it may feel somewhere in between. Life can result in feelings of meaninglessness, depression, identity confusion, exhaustion, loss of creativity or emptiness. At other times, trauma is accompanied by painful feelings of loss, grief, anxiety, anger, guilt, chronic pain, substance use, problems with relationships and work. This can be expressed by feelings of sadness, anxiety, or worry and may feel like a tugging within us that something is wrong, and we are off course. This can often lead us to therapy for relief of difficult experiences, thoughts and feelings. Still other times we may enter therapy with a desire to find meaning and purpose.
At Way of River Psychotherapy our approach is rooted in Depth Psychology that is partnered with a combination of modalities such as CBT, DBT, IFS, Family Systems, Solution Focused, and Trauma Informed. Together we will discover the approach that feels best suited for your journey.
Meeting once a week, in a confidential and honoring environment, we will build a trusting relationship that gives you space for the work you want to do. Throughout our sessions we will combine insight, action, and integration with skill-based techniques to support you on your healing journey.
Together we'll work to manage and explore the complex depths of meaning and feelings that come with life and relationships. We will work directly with the core elements of thoughts, feelings and experiences to tap into those lost or unknown parts of self that are key to your healing. This work can not only give symptom relief, but bring individual and relationship growth and meaning, that sustains you throughout life’s journey.
Over time, clients may report feelings of self-acceptance, transformation, authenticity, renewed energy for life and a sense of purpose and passion.
"The true strength of a river lies not in its strength or power but in its innate ability to flow and adjust its path around any hindrance."

Kimberly shares her path to becoming a psychotherapist
My path as a psychotherapist began with social work where I was drawn to the perspectives of people within the context of relationship, family, community, culture and the world; often called “systems”. As I worked with people, I became deeply interested in the dynamics of a person’s relationship with themselves as shaped by their experiences and perceptions of those relationships. I saw many people cut off from their essence, a sense of disconnectedness from self. This led me to Depth Psychology where I received my master’s degree in Counseling Psychology at Pacifica University.
While most theories focus on behavior, Depth Psychology believes that healing comes from a deeper level of processing and introspection which is interested in healing through awareness of those parts of ourselves that have been cast out or not yet able to be known and their impact on our behavior, thoughts and feelings. I believe that healing comes from allowing what is ousted from our awareness to come forward, explore its significance and integrate it; allowing you to become more fully present to yourself and your life resulting in enhancing your relationship with yourself, others, your community and the world.
In my practice, I have witnessed that we humans are instinctively drawn toward healing and growth with a desire for meaning and soul. Our work together allows what is blocking that instinct to give way to healing.
